Single Mothers' Drew Thomson releasing solo EP (watch the title track's video)

Canadian punk rippers Single Mothers released their new album Our Pleasure last year, and this year singer Drew Thomson is releasing a new EP with his alt-country solo project. It’s called Stay and it’s coming out under the name The Drew Thomson Foundation on May 11 via Dine Alone Records. The EP was engineered and co-produced by John Dinsmore and mixed by Alex Newport (At the Drive In, Death Cab For Cutie, Bloc Party), and it’s being touted as a “prelude” to Drew’s as-of-yet untitled full-length album.

We’re premiering the title track, along with its video, which is a very promising taste of the EP. It’s a lot calmer than what Drew does in Single Mothers, but his punk roots aren’t completely gone. If you’re into punk/alt-country crossover like Lucero and The New Amsterdams, you’re probably gonna dig this too. Drew tells us: “‘Stay’ is a plea – it’s a simple word that can unlock an incredible amount of vulnerability in the person asking it. Unfortunately by the time we have to ask someone to stay, we usually already know the answer. This song is about trying to change the inevitable, too little too late – and having to deal with it.” Listen/watch the video below.
