When electro-pop artist Tamtam released her first single on Youtube, a track called “Little Girl,” she blurred out the video so her face could not be identified as she was fearful of backlash from those she knew back home. Born and raised in Saudia Arabia until she was 13, her parents insisted that she relocate to California for schooling in order to see the world through a different lens. And so she did. Using the opportunity to learn both academically and musically, she began tapping into a version of herself that she could be proud of sharing with the world.

The story behind her first video was a powerful one that went on to inspire her second single and title track off her debut EP, Gender Game. It also caught the attention of Oscar-winning actress and advocate, Geena Davis (Beetlejuice, A League of Their Own, The Accidental Tourist), who has used her platform to discuss gender balance in media. Tamtam was invited to be support at three of Davis’ non-profit events and it became clear that her voice as an artist was making a difference.

Using her lyrics as a way to touch on themes resonating with humanity such as acceptance, gender equality, and love, Tamtam presents music with the purpose of challenging listeners to think consciously. Now, Tamtam has returned with her newest single, “Blue.” Inspired by the ending of a relationship, the track is one that will resonate with those who have been left in the dark with nothing but a feeling of despair.

When asked about the track, Tamtam had this to say: “Blue is the haunting feeling I experienced at the end of a dissolved relationship. While I was wallowing in the “blues”, he kept his “cool” about it. I drew on the everchanging “blues” in nature (such as water, and the sky) because of their vastness, unpredictability, and their power to set a melancholy tone.”
